AMIGO XP

An amazingly easy way to use Linux!

Amigo-XP requires a Pentium I processor. Though Amigo-XP can easily be run with very little RAM, best usability is obtained with at least 64MB RAM.

You'll need a running Windows NT, 2000, XP, or Server2003 for the installer to work, though this could be unpacked under Windows 98/ME and manually configured to boot from Win98. Once unpacked, Amigo-XP can also be installed to a separate partition.   Amigo-XP needs between 1 and 1.4 Gigabytes of free space on your hard drive -more if you want  Swap Space or more free disk space. The base system is 980MB, with 65MB of free space(I'm working on freeing up a bit more). KDE is available as a separate option -just unpack a single file to install it! Or install extra binaries and AppDirs for the ROX Desktop the same way - just unzip one file!

The most complete Amigo distribution yet! Lots of special hardware support and a selection of programs that lets you choose among several browsers, editors and file managers. Includes Multi-Media support, Bluetooth, Firewire, Wireless support.

Amigo-XP includes a small Rescue System (2MB) that also shows in the boot options. This provides an ultra-safe way to upgrade your system, since it includes the Slackware Setup program. And you'll find tools for extending your system or creating Swap(virtual menory) Space.

More details are forthcoming. As ALWAYS with Amigo Linux, Amiog-XP has many special tricks that help you get maximum use from your system. However, Amigo-XP is in a pre-release state as far as documentation goes. I'm planning an interactive online help system that should provide much better support for Amigo Users.

See here  for the complete list of included software. You can see a more detailed description here of how Amigo-XP works, what the installer does and what the advantages and disadvantages are of running Amigo-XP.

For now, at least,  Amigo-XP is available only direct from AmigoLinux.org. You can get  the CD alone, or get Amigo-XP Linux pre-installed on USB FLASH, Compact Flash, USB Hard Drive or other device.

See here for details of how to GET the CD!
